Safety Net

A Bitcoin savings account for people who will never touch a seed phrase. Your existing Apple devices are the keys, protection increases as you save, and you always see one balance.

The opportunity

Bitcoin self-custody still asks ordinary people to become their own bank, with 12 or 24 words acting as the entire safety system. Lose the words and the savings are gone; photograph them and a cloud breach can expose everything. The alternative—leaving Bitcoin on an exchange—reintroduces the counterparty risk self-custody was meant to remove.

Project Safety Net is a self-custody Bitcoin savings account where a person’s existing Apple devices form the key set. No seed phrase is shown, no single device contains a vault key, and multi-device ceremonies ensure one compromised source of randomness cannot silently bias the wallet. The user experiences the system as one balance and one promise: peace of mind.

What we want to build first

Start with a beautiful seedless Bitcoin savings wallet for iPhone and Mac. Face ID or Touch ID authorises hardware-rooted keys; small balances remain simple, while larger balances progressively move into FROST threshold wallets protected by more devices.

The first build should prove the core ceremonies: enrol devices, create keys from verifiable multi-device entropy, consolidate funds into stronger protection bands, rotate out a lost device without moving funds, and recover through a time-delayed server that cannot see, freeze, or spend a user’s Bitcoin.

Who we’re looking for

The founding team needs a Rust engineer to own FROST, distributed key generation, re-sharing, BDK integration, and the entropy module; plus a Swift engineer to build the Apple apps, Secure Enclave wrapping, biometric gates, device transport, and ceremony UX.

We also want an experienced cryptographer in an advisory role, alongside designers, reviewers, node runners, and sceptics who can pressure-test the system before launch. The standard is uncompromising: the server must never be able to see, freeze, or move user funds, while the product still feels profoundly human.

Ready to build it?

We’re assembling the founding team for this idea. If the problem feels personal and you have the pace to explore it with us, start a conversation.
